Objectives:

At the end of the presentation participants will be able to:

  1. Define ‘bolus’ insulin and ‘basal’ insulin.
  2. Discuss meter features, including SBGM and CGM, important to patient selection of a particular meter.
  3. Discuss pump features important to patient selection of a particular pump.
  4. Use Carb Counting and glucose values to determine insulin dose pre meal.

Outline:

  Insulin delivery systems
    Pens vs. vials
    Multiple daily injections
    Pumps
Pumps & meter interactions (Smart pumps)
    Products available
    Bolus wizards
    Basal rate variability
Selecting the right meter for SBGM and/or CGM: features to consider
Selecting the right pump: features to consider
Use of ‘Carb Counting’ for insulin adjustment
    Insulin to carb ratios
