Summary:
This program focuses on insulin management in type 1 and 2 diabetes. Basal/bolus insulin delivery including multiple daily injections, inhaled insulin and insulin pumps are discussed. Use of continuous glucose monitoring in insulin adjustment is reviewed along with carbohydrate counting and correction factors. Case studies using insulin therapy are presented.
Objectives:
At the end of the presentation participants will be able to:
- Define ‘bolus’ insulin and ‘basal’ insulin.
- Discuss meter features, including SBGM and CGM, important to patient selection of a particular meter.
- Discuss pump features important to patient selection of a particular pump.
- Use Carb Counting and glucose values to determine insulin
dose pre meal.
